Well, the competition was a couple of days ago and I'm happy to say I am stoked with how I did. The day started off pretty shitty, it was raining and cold. I was pissed off cos I had just fixed my hair nicely and I shouldn't even have bothered!
The first was the Log Press for Maximum weight. I felt pretty good warming up so I decided to put my first weight down as 60kg. It went up pretty easily. My second attempt was 65kg. That one took a little bit more effort, but I got it up. My third attempt was 70kg. I'm not sure what went wrong with that one, but I couldn't even clean it up to my shoulders! I actually wonder if it was the belt I was using because I wore it for the competition but had never used it before in training. Nevermind, next time!!
By the time the second event rolled around the raining had stopped. I was a little nervous about the deadlift because I hadn't really trained it much since my deadlift competition last year in December. There was some training here and there of course, but all in all probably around half a dozen sessions? Anyway. My first attempt was 150kg - piece of cake. My second attempt I jumped up to 165kg - again pretty easy. My third attempt was going to be a PR for me - 175kg. I am happy to say I got it!!! I was pretty happy about that one. Justin encouraged me to have a go at 180kg and once all the boys had their go at it, I stepped up there. I had attempted 180kg at my Deadlift competition last year but it was plastered to the ground. This time, the bar actually took flight to my knees but I gave it up.
The third event was the Log Press for reps with 40kg. I managed to get 17 reps in the allowed 90 seconds. I actually felt the power cleaning harder than the actual pressing.
The fourth event was the Deadlift for reps with 90kg. We were allowed to use straps (and belt) for this one so it made it a little less daunting. I managed to squeeze out 30 reps!! I couldn't believe it! I got to about 20 reps, and I heard someone call out 10 more!! I was thinking, you have got to be kidding mate... there is no way in hell.. I was aiming for 25, but when I got there I had about 20 seconds left so I used every bit of strength I had left to get to 30. I was so happy (and tired!!!). It felt like an intense cardio session.
There were just two ladies competing; I got 1st and for my efforts received 1.32kg of Horleys ICE Whey.... EXCELLENT! I love this stuff, but it's expensive to buy so it was a big score IMO.
Afterwards, I had two beers and half a pizza. Awesome. My back is still stiff but feeling a lot better. My family came to see the competition and they all had a great time. It was nice to have people I know there cheering me on.
